Next Challenge - Snow Globes

I got an email from Mel with about 8 links. It was hard to choose what I would do because they were all so pretty and fun. I will get to them all eventually... This week I choose the snow globes she sent me. I thought it would be good to do something for the Christmas season.

If you have some jars, you should try this one too!

So Elegant

I have a busy weekend coming up so I worked hard today to finish the Chandelier. I was waiting this week for a day where it wasn't raining or snowing, so I could spray paint.

I found a chandelier at Goodwill but it was $20. I went to Value Village and picked this one up for $9.99, half the price of the one at Goodwill. I also bought 7 long strings of pearls from the dollar store and you guessed it, they were $7.

I found a branch outside and hung it up so i could spray paint it.

As you can see I put tape over the electrical part.

Than I took my glue gun and the pearls and went crazy.

Looks like a mess right? well that is because its not hanging, my glue gun wouldn't reach if it was hanging. Made it harder this way, so I would say if you do this, try to hand it while decorating it. Also, if you have the cut the string of pearls, dab some glue on the string, so the pearls don't go everywhere. I found that out after the fact. Ryder (our dog) thought it was treats, so he was running around chasing the pearls, HA.
Can you see the glue? no? well i tried to capture it for you.

Now here is the Chandelier!

I put the pearls between the five arms and between each light socket.
I also put a row on the 'body' of the chandelier.

I spray painted it with white, I tried finding a nice pastel colour but couldn't. The chandelier is going in our laundry room. I will get my electrician Brandon to hook it up soon to show you. I choose the laundry room for a couple of reasons.
1. I need a light fixture in there.
2. I still have yet to decorate that room and make it my own, so this is my starting point and inspiration.
So a little before and after.....

Current Plans

 I found a Chandelier
 For 9.99 :)
Bought pearls at the dollar store, total $5

I also found this blanket kit at Walmart.

Very detailed instructions. I will show you when I am done.

I made something

I made an advent calendar this past week. I used a canvas and poked 24 holes in it and then used bobby pins for clips. I printed out 24 cards with family things on them.

They read things like: have friends over for hot cocoa and a fire; bake a treat; read a story; decorate tree etc

Here is a closer view of the bobby pins.

We have started it even though it is not December 1st because we are going away end of December, so We wanted to be able to go through all the days before we leave. This year we aren't getting a tree, so the decorate a tree wont work this year.

Yesterdays was open a new pair of pajamas.

We all got a new pair.
Mason wanted to open them without pictures
SEE! he is telling me to stop!

He loves them, especially eating them.

I have the perfect place for the chandelier but I am not telling you. When I am done, I will take a picture of it in its new home/room and then that will bring me to my net challenge.

Also thanks to those who sent m challenges/links - I have a lot to choose from for the next little while. But don't stop sending me ideas!

Homemade Chalkboard

I am making this chalkboard for Mason. When he is older, he can doodle on it. I had this window that would be perfect (thanks Kristen) I sanded it down good since Mason will be playing with it one day.

Then I got some paint and grout as the link explains. This paint I don't have a name for, I made it by mixing some greens and white that I had.

 1 CUP OF PAINT

2 TABLESPOONS OF GROUT (they said non-sanded; I think I used sanded. woops)
and mix it very well. The grout takes long to mix.

I taped around the edge of the window. not sure if you can see the tape?
painted it on with a roller. I used a little paint brush for the edge.
My little helper is happy with his chalkboard.

What should I do next?
Meg sent this: http://pinterest.com/pin/603462986/
But I am going to wait on that one because I have done a lot of art stuff I feel like and its intimidating.
